How to turn a photo or logo into grain art without uploading it

You have a photo, a logo or an illustration, and you want that grainy, dotted look for a poster, a social post or a website header. Most online converters ask you to upload the file first, and you are not sure where your image ends up after that. Design apps can do it, but it takes time to learn the right filters and settings. You want something quick that keeps the shape recognisable and gives you a clean file you can use.

The short answer

Grainform turns an image into grain artwork right in your browser, and the image never leaves your device. You drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file, adjust grain size, detail, contrast, color and background, and download the result.

01Why the usual way fails

Grain effects in many tools are just a texture laid over the image, so they look flat and blur when you scale the file up. When a tool offers SVG, it often hides a PNG inside the vector file, which defeats the point of using vectors. Uploading client logos or private photos to a random converter is also a privacy risk you may not be allowed to take. And getting the balance right is tricky: too much grain and the subject disappears, too little and the effect is lost.

02How Grainform helps

Grainform turns an image into grain artwork right in your browser, and the image never leaves your device. You drop in a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file, adjust grain size, detail, contrast, color and background, and download the result. The SVG export is real vector, because each visible grain is written as its own circle instead of a picture inside the file. If you need a PNG, Grainform keeps the source size when your browser can handle it and offers a transparent background.

03Step by step

  1. Open Grainform and drop, choose or paste your image, or start with the sample.
  2. Adjust grain size and detail until the subject is still easy to recognise.
  3. Tune contrast and color, and pick a background color or Transparent.
  4. Check the preview, where a checker pattern marks the transparent area.
  5. Download a PNG for quick use or an SVG when you need to scale the art.

04Tips

  • Pick SVG for anything that will be printed large or used on a website at many sizes. SVG exports stay vector at any size, while PNG files are reduced if they pass the device limit.
  • Start with a high-contrast image. Logos and photos with a clear subject keep their shape better once they turn into grains, and the default Fine look is tuned to keep them recognisable.
  • If the browser slows down, use a smaller source file. Very detailed images need more analysis, and running low on memory is the usual reason a conversion stalls.
  • Plan the background before you export. A white or custom color is baked into the PNG, so choose Transparent if the art will sit on different backgrounds later.
