How to stop losing orders between waiters and the kitchen

Friday night, every table is full, and a waiter walks to the counter with three orders written on a scrap of paper. One slip falls behind the till, the kitchen cooks a dish nobody ordered, and table 9 is still waiting for its starters. Customers wave to get attention, and the staff runs around without knowing what is ready. At the end of the night you cannot even tell which dishes sold well, because half of it was never written down properly.

The short answer

Restro Grow is a cloud POS where waiters take orders on tablets or phones and the orders go straight to the kitchen. A kitchen order ticket is created automatically, chefs see pending orders in real time and mark items as cooking or ready, and waiters are notified when food is ready.

01Why the usual way fails

Paper slips and shouted orders work when the room is quiet, but they break down in a rush, which is exactly when mistakes cost the most. Many POS systems need special hardware and long training, so small restaurants keep using pen and paper. When orders come from tables, the phone and delivery apps at the same time, there is no single place where the kitchen sees everything. Without a shared view, waiters keep checking with the chef instead of serving guests.

02How RestroGrow helps

Restro Grow is a cloud POS where waiters take orders on tablets or phones and the orders go straight to the kitchen. A kitchen order ticket is created automatically, chefs see pending orders in real time and mark items as cooking or ready, and waiters are notified when food is ready. Managers, chefs and waiters each get their own dashboard, and tables show whether they are free, reserved or occupied. It runs on devices you already have, such as old Android tablets, iPads, Windows PCs or phones.

03Step by step

  1. Sign up for the free trial with your restaurant details; no credit card is needed.
  2. Add your menu, tables, staff and opening hours.
  3. Give waiters the app on their phones or tablets so they take orders at the table.
  4. Let the kitchen work from the KOT screen or printed tickets and mark items as they move along.
  5. Print QR codes for tables so guests can order and call a waiter from their own phones.

04Tips

  • Plan for internet trouble before your busiest night. The system is cloud-based, so keep a mobile hotspot ready as a backup connection.
  • Use the waiter call button to cut down on waving and shouting. Guests tap a button on their phone and the waiter gets a notification.
  • Check the daily reports after each service. Seeing which dishes sell and when you are busiest helps you plan staff and stock for the next week.
  • Train the whole team on the same day you switch, even if it takes only a few minutes each. Mixing paper slips and the new system during the same shift is where orders get lost.
