How to save a copy of your phone workout log

FlexLog keeps your log on the device you used and has no cloud backup, so a copy is up to you. On the Android phone app you can export the whole journal to a JSON file and import it again on a new phone.

Step by step

  1. Open FlexLog on your Android phone. This guide is for the phone log, which you can use with or without a watch.Screen: Phone app home screen
  2. Finish and review any session you are in the middle of, so the latest workout is part of the journal.Screen: Completed workout review on the phone
  3. Go to the export option for your workout journal and export it as a JSON file.Screen: Phone screen with the journal export option
  4. Save the file somewhere that is not the phone itself, like your computer or a cloud drive you already use. A copy on the same phone does not help if the phone is lost.Screen: Android share sheet with the exported JSON file
  5. On a new phone, install FlexLog, then use the import option and choose the same JSON file.Screen: Phone screen with the journal import option
  6. Remember what the file covers. It holds workouts you created on the phone. Watch workouts live on the watch, and the summaries the phone shows from the watch are not a full backup.Screen: Watch summaries section in the phone app

Questions

Will workouts I log on my phone show up on my watch?

No. Phone workouts stay on the phone. The connection only goes one way, so the phone can show recent watch summaries but the watch never receives phone sessions.

Is the watch to phone sync a backup of my history?

No. The phone shows recent watch summaries and template names in read-only form, which is handy for a quick look but does not replace the history stored on the watch.

Can I export my workout log?

From the phone app, yes. You can export the workouts you logged on the phone as a JSON file and import that file again later.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Logging a session does not need a connection, which matters in gyms where the signal drops as soon as you walk downstairs.

Is there a cloud account that keeps my data in sync across devices?

No. There is no FlexLog cloud and no automatic backup between devices. Each log lives on the device where you created it.

Can I fix a set I logged by mistake?
